Sunshine Run: Creating Brighter Days for Kids with Cancer

Date: Saturday, October 8, 2011
Location: Melvin Price Locks and Dam, Alton, IL

The Inaugural Sunshine Run: Creating Brighter Days for Kids With Cancer was held on October 8, 2011. With over 140 participants, we received a bounty of positive feedback and the desire of participants to come back again next year! We are very excited to announce that we were able to raise over $10,689! On behalf of Isaac's Rays of Hope and Cardinal Glennon, we would like to thank you for your support in making this inaugural event such a huge success!

All the proceeds raised will directly benefit the children and families of the Bob Costas Cancer Center at SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center in St. Louis. An account has been set up at the hospital called Isaac's Hope, which will go to assist families with gas cards, prescriptions, utility bills, daycare for siblings, meal expenses, lodging, and many other expenses incurred while the children are in treatment. Here at Isaac's Rays of Hope, we will be putting together special personalized "hospital apparel" and packaging up goodies to bring to the children to make their hospital stays as tolerable as possible.

At this year's event, we raffled off two St. Louis Cardinals baseball bats, courtesy of Skip Shumaker. Our winners were Jay Goetten of Fieldon, IL and Douglas Oberbeck of St. Peters, MO. Both young boys are ecstatic to have a piece of Cardinals' memorabilia!

We look forward to next year's event being even bigger and better! Please visit our website at www.isaacsraysofhope.org to check out pictures of the run. Once again, thank you for your support. You have made a difference in the lives of children with cancer and their families!

With Deepest Gratitude,

Lisa Wargo
Sunshine Run Event Director
